Orca3D Version 3 and Version 2 can both be installed on your computer, but Rhino can only load one version at a time. To use Version 3, you can either uninstall Version 2 or you can load protect Orca3D in the pluginmanager so that Rhino will prompt you whether you want to load the last version that you loaded. Follow these instructions to be able to switch between Version 3 and Version 2.
- You must have the latest Service Release for Rhino 7 (Rhino 6 is not supported). In Rhino, click Help/Check for Updates and follow the prompts.
- In order to be able to work with menus and toolbars for both Version 2 and Version 3, you will need to move your Version 2 RUI file to a new writable location. To do this:
- Start Rhino, and run the _toolbar command
- In the "Files” section select “Orca3D”
- In the File menu of this dialog, select “Save As” and enter “Orca3DV2.rui” as the filename to save and click Save.
- If you haven’t already, Load protect the Orca3D plug-in (this will cause Rhino to prompt you before loading the plug-in when you start Rhino[LL1] )
- Start Rhino, and run the pluginmanager command
- Scroll down to Orca3D, and uncheck the Enabled box
- Check the box for “Ask to load disabled plug-ins” (below the Install button)
- Click OK and close Rhino
- Install the v3.0 WIP. Download the installation file
- Start Rhino; you should see a dialog similar to the one shown below asking if you want to load V2; click No so that v2.0 does not load (sometimes this dialog is hidden behind other windows; you can use Alt-Tab to cycle through your open windows until you find this one[LL2] ):
- Load the v3.0 WIP[LL3]
- Run pluginmanager
- Click Install
- Navigate to the folder where you installed v3.0 (normally C:\Program Files\Orca3D V3)
- Select the Orca3D.rhp file and click Open
- The first time you do this, it will search for a license. You will have the option to “Configure as a trial” which will give you a 15-day license. Note that if you don’t see this option, the dialog may be hidden behind the Rhino (or other) windows. On the next dialog which asks for permission to connect to the internet, check the “Don’t show this message again” box and click OK. Fill in the registration information on the next dialog and click OK. The license will fail, but Rhino will then load without Orca3D. Look for the verification email from CopyMinder and click on the confirmation link. If you don’t see this email, check your spam/junk folder. After confirming your email address, restart Rhino. This process is only required once.
- Now the v3.0 WIP is loaded.
- Note that if the Orca3D V3.0 menu does not show up, you can select Tools -> Toolbar Layout, and then File -> Open. Open the file C:\Program Files\Orca3D V3\Orca3D.rui.
- To switch back to v2.0
- Close Rhino
- Start Rhino; you should see a dialog similar to this asking if you want to load V3.0; click No so that v3.0 does not load (sometimes this dialog is hidden behind other windows; you can use Alt-Tab to cycle through your open windows until you find this one):
- Repeat Step 5, but load Orca3D.rhp from the folder where you installed v2.0 (normally C:\Program Files\Orca3D V2)
- To switch back to v3.0, repeat Steps 6 then 5, and load Orca3D.rhp from C:\Program Files\Orca3D V3)
